Agave americana, or the century plant, is a large, iconic succulent known for its dramatic rosette of spiny, grey-green leaves, reaching up to 10 feet tall and 13 feet wide. Native to Mexico and the southwestern US, it's drought-tolerant, needs full sun and well-drained soil, and produces a massive flower stalk after 10-25 years, after which the main plant dies, leaving behind "pups" (offsets). It's used ornamentally but requires careful placement due to its size and sharp spines.
