Opuntia cacanapa 'Ellisiana', commonly known as the Ellisiana spineless prickly pear, is a cultivar of the Opuntia cacanapa species, prized for its lack of spines and glochids, making it safe to handle. It's a cold-hardy, spineless prickly pear native to Arizona, South Texas and Mexico, with a low, spreading growth habit. This variety is known for its bright yellow summer flowers and edible, red fruits (tunas).
Unlike many prickly pear cacti, 'Ellisiana' lacks spines and the tiny, irritating hairs (glochids) that can cause skin irritation.
